This small program, for the Fourth Annual Meeting of the East Tennessee Educational Association, is missing its center pages. On the back of the front cover, it lists the Officers, the members of the Executive Committee, the Music Committee, and the Reception and Entertainment Committee. On the front of the back cover, it lists events from Friday evening and Saturday morning. The back cover has a call for attendance, lodging information and prices, and rules for presentations, written over the name L. S. London, chairman of the Executive Committee.

The Officers were J. L. Bachman, President (Sweetwater); Miss Belle Karnes, Vice President (Knoxville); and O. N. Smith, Secretary and Treasurer (Sweetwater). Topics covered on Friday night and Saturday morning were Spelling Reform; an address by the State Superintendent, Price Thomas; an address by Judge Newton Hacker entitled Education as a Prevention of Crime; Chalk Talks; a report of the National Superintendent's Meeting at Chattanooga, and a Feedback Session.

Biographical/Historical Note

John Lynn Bachman was born circa 1842. He married Fanne W Rogan on July 7, 1873, in Hawkins County, and they had at least three children: James R, Anna L, and Byers M. Bachman moved to Sweetwater, Tennessee where he served as a teacher, a minister, and the head of the Sweetwater Male Academy and the Sweetwater College. In 1898, he was the president of the East Tennessee Educational Association.
