Biographical/Historical Note
Joshua Tabatchnik was born to R'Kalman Ben-David and Hava Tabachnik on August 27, 1896 in Dubove, Russia (modern Ukraine). He was born Ovshyi Gherah Tabatchnik, but later changed his name to Joshua. He married Nadia Sarah Nepomiachy on May 9, 1917 in Wapniarka, Russia. He lived in Tel Aviv, which was then a city in Palestine (modern Israel) before moving to the United States. The couple had two children: Tamara Molly (Tabatchnik) Temkin (1920-2004) and Esther Mohla (Tabatchnik) Schoenfeld (1923-2010), both born in Tel Aviv. Joshua and his family arrived in New York on May 13, 1924, and were naturalized as U.S. citizens on May 29, 1925. Tabatchnik was an architect who devoted considerable effort to formulating a unified theory of the universe. He died in February 1971.
