Biographical/Historical Note
The University of Tennessee and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory founded the Science Alliance in 1984 in order to promote joint research ventures and thus enrich the University's science and engineering programs. The Alliance's Distinguished Professor program is designed to provide joint high profile leadership in areas where the two institutions share strengths. Each Professor holds a tenured distinguished professorship at UT and often also holds a distinguished scientist appointment at ORNL. This program is scheduled to be phased out in favor of the Governor's Chair Program.
