Biographical/Historical Note

First published on August 29th, 1863 under the title The Army and Navy Journal and Gazette of the Regular and Volunteer Forces, this publication was established in response to "insistent demand for an official organ for members of the American Defense and those concerned with it." The paper underwent several name changes but was consistently known as the Army and Navy Journal for many years. In 1968, it was renamed the Armed Forces Journal, which it remains today.
