James J. Moran Papers
This collection houses set designs, photographs, negatives, and other materials documenting James J. Moran's career in film and theatre. The majority of the items show his work at the University of Tennessee, including his participation in such plays as Lilliom, Ring of the Nibelung, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Our Country's Good. Other materials document his work on such projects as Warner Brothers' Witches of Eastwick (1986) and Metro Goldwyn Mayer's Stanley and Iris (1988).

Biographical/Historical Note
James J. Moran was born to James J. and Dorothy Moran on July 2, 1955. He earned his BA from the College of the Holy Cross in 1975 and his MFA from Brandeis University in 1978. After graduation, he worked for a number of prestigious theater and film companies including the Eastern Opera Theater (1980-1982) and Warner Brothers (1984-1987). He also taught at several Universities, including Northeastern University, Smith College, and the University of California at Riverside. Moran came to the University of Tennessee as a Professor of Set Design in 1990, and remained at this post until his untimely death of lung cancer on September 23, 1994.
