Abstract

This pamphlet was published by the Confederate Survivors Association in 1893. It includes transcripts of a speech on the Battle of Chickamauga and military operations in the state of Georgia given by Colonel Joseph B. Cumming on April 26th, 1893 at the association's annual meeting in Augusta, Georgia.

Biographical/Historical Note

The Confederate Survivors Association was created on May 3, 1878. Goode Bryan, a former Confederate general, presided over the first meeting. The association was based out of Augusta, Georgia, and in 1879, the city gave the group ownership of the chimney of the Confederate Powderworks. The group then restored the brick on the chimney. They adopted the United Confederate Veteran's constitution in 1894. This caused the Augusta group to become Camp No. 435. The group had 900 members at its peak.
