Pembroke S. Scott Letter
This collection contains a letter, dated December 21, 1863, from Private Pembroke S. Scott of Company B, 118th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, to his mother in Ohio. Camped 18 miles east of Knoxville, Scott wrote about camplife and the harsh conditions, as the 118th lacked rations and supplies.

Abstract
A letter from Private Pembroke S. Scott of the 118th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, dated December 21, 1863 from camp 18 miles east of Knoxville, to his mother in Ohio about Civil War camplife and the harsh conditions he faced, as the 118th lacked rations and supplies.
Biographical/Historical Note
Pembroke Scott, a private with the 118th Regiment of the Ohio Volunteer Infantry, was mustered into service on August 11, 1862. This regiment saw action as part of Burnside's Campaign in East Tennessee from August 16- October 17, 1863. Afterwards, they served near Kingston, Tenn. until moving to Nashville in December. They then joined the Atlanta Campaign from May 1 to September 8. Scott was killed in battle on May 14, 1864 at Resaca, Ga.
Scott was born in Hardin County, Ohio, and was around 21 years old when this letter was written. He was a farmer by trade.
