This collection consists of four booklets documenting the atomic bomb dating from 1945 to 1969. One is a collection of New York Times articles on the development of the atomic bomb, including an article on Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Also included are a Christian tract by Hyman Appelman advocating the abolition of nuclear weapons and pamphlets describing how to protect one's family from a nuclear attack published by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Baltimore Sun.

Biography / History

Hyman Jedidiah Appelman was born in Russia in 1902 and was raised as an Orthodox Jew. His family moved to America in 1914. He attended Northwestern and Depaul Universities and became a lawyer. In 1930 he converted to Christianity, after which he attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Texas. He spent the rest of his life as an evangelical preacher. He died in 1983.
