George Harral was was born in Georgia. When the Civil War broke out, he was living in Wilcox County with his wife and child and working as a farmer. He enlisted in Company H of the 10th Georgia Volunteer Infantry as a private on May 20, 1861. He apparently returned to his family in Georgia after the war.

Researchers should note that Harral's last name may also be spelled "Harrell" or "Harrel" in some records.
