William Neil (Bill) Bender was born on September 26, 1953, and received his Ph.D. in Special Education from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, in 1983. He teaches at the University of Georgia in Athens, GA, and has authored over 50 research articles and 13 books. With his wife Dr. Renet L. Bender, he operates the Teacher's Workshop in Watkinsville, GA. His only son, Joseph William (Willie) Bender was born on March 21, 1988, to Dr. Bender and his second wife Susan.
