Biography / History
Wade Keyes was born in 1821. He attended school at LaGrange College and the University of Virginia, then studied law in Lexington, Kentucky. He practiced law in Tallahassee, Florida from 1844 to 1851, then moved to Montgomery, Alabama. During the Civil War he served as Assistant Attorney General for the Confederate States of America. After the war he continued to practice law in Florence, Alabama, where he died in 1879.

This collection consists of a brief letter from Wade Keyes dated Richmond, August 14, 1861 to J. L. Ramsey in Knoxville. Keyes confirms Ramsey's appointment as attorney for the District of Tennessee. He makes reference to a commission which was originally enclosed with the letter.
