Scope Note:

Mansfield Oct. 13th 1843

My dear Husband,

You find that I am very obedient in writing to you often, although I am aware that my letters are not very interesting--I have just returned from Susan's and town a few minutes since, but do not know that I heard any interesting news to communicate--I enquired if your goods had arrived but could not learn, there were three books reach here last night--I suppose, as there were none at the landing on yesterday evening when I came out of town--I went in the morning and purchased Julia a handsome piano-- Benjamin McColloch and Miss Anna Cannon are to be married on next Thursday evening, Ben is here at present and very anxious to see you and wishes you to send in to his wedding, if you come bring your light colored pantaloons with you, as you might go--Martha is to be bridesmaid on the occasion and I heard this morning that Ben was looking for William, as he wished him to be one of his attendants--William was out here this morning to see George (Jenny's child) who was very ill all right with the croup, he is a little better at present though not out of danger--Ma and Julia were up nearly all night with him, and Ma thinks it one of the worst cases of croup that she ever saw--William has promised to return and stay to night, as he thinks a second attack would be much worse--Brother William sent Julia Green's bonnet on yesterday morning to Gallatin by Dr. Leyton. I shall be very much disappointed if you do not come over tomorrow or the next day--I am very anxious to get home--still we are well here/except George/and at Susan's--My love to Wat, and respects to Albert H. Prakim--

Your ever affectionate wife Jane Ellen Cheatham
