Dr. Milton M. Klein was a leading specialist in the colonial history of New York and the early history of American law. Born in 1917, Klein received his B.S.S. degree in 1937 and his M.S. degree in 1939 from City College of New York. During World War II, Klein served in the Air Force with the Air Transport Command from 1942-1944. In 1954 he completed his Ph.D. at Columbia University. In 1969, he joined the faculty of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville as professor of history, and from 1988 to 1997, he was University Historian. He was also president of the American Society for Legal History from 1980 through 1982. Klein died on June 10, 2004.
