Biography / History

President Roosevelt revitalized the widespread unemployment and economic depression in the United States with several measures, including the Emergency Conservation Work (ECW) Act, more commonly known as the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC).

The Tennessee Valley Authority began construction of Norris Dam in 1933, and completed it 1936. Norris Lake is the largest reservoir on a tributary of the Tennessee River, with 809 miles of shoreline and 33,840 acres of water surface. The dam is 265 feet high and stretches 1,860 feet across the Clinch River.
