This collection consists of three folders.

Edwin S. Cunningham was born July 6, 1868, in Sevier County, Tenn. He graduated from Maryville College in Tennessee and received an LL.B. from the University of Michigan. In 1898, he was appointed consul to Aden, Arabia, and transferred to Bergen, Norway, in 1903. In 1906, Cunningham became consul to Durban, South Africa, and from 1910-1912, he served as consul to Bombay, India. Cunningham also served as United States consul-general to Singapore in 1912, to Hankow, China, from 1916-1919, and to Shanghai, China, between 1920-1932.

This collection consists of three handwritten notebooks, written by United States consul-general Edwin S. Cunningham, between October 12, 1891-June 7, 1892, while attending law school at the University of Michigan.
