This letter was written on March 13, 1864 by Sergeant Major Charles Perry Goodrich to his wife Francis at their home in Christiana, Wisconsin. He was stationed outside of Knoxville, Tennessee and sent his wife an overview of his last few weeks, including the battle for Knoxville by Longstreet and the Confederate Army. He mentions that both armies are living on hardtack and coffee due to extreme lack of supplies.
