This collection consists of one letter from Union soldier Thomas C. Sleeper to his sister Sadie Sleeper of Millport, New York. Thomas describes the climate of Nashville, Tennessee (where he is stationed for training) and a visit to Louisville, Kentucky on a short leave.

Collection consists of a single folder

Thomas C. Sleeper was born in about 1810 in New Hampshire. He later moved to New York and married Sarah [last name unknown]. The couple had three children: Mary (born about 1835), Charles (born about 1846), and Sarah (born about 1849). Thomas Sleeper died sometime between 1880 and 1890.

In this letter to his sister Sadie, Thomas Sleeper writes of the monotony of his training in Nashville, Tennessee. He tells of a trip to Louisville, Kentucky on a weekend leave where he was surprised to see that the leaves had not yet turned colors or begun to fall from the trees as they had in Nashville and that there were still "uncommonly large" flowers blooming.
