Biography / History

Born in Virginia in 1783 to John and Martha White, Woodson P. White moved to Tennessee at the age of six. He married Nancy Mitchell in 1810 and had two daughters, Elizabeth and Louisa Hurt White. Woodson P. White represented White County in the State Legislature from 1823 to 1827. He died in 1829 and was buried in the Sparta Cemetery. White County, established in 1806, is named for his father, John White, one of the earliest settlers in the area.
