Originally organized on April 20, 1901 as the Nashville and Clarksville Railroad Company, the corporate name was changed on April 30, 1902 to the Tennessee Central Railroad Company. The change was the result of the 1902 purchase of several Tennessee railroad companies such as the Tennessee Central Railway Company, Cumberland Plateau Railroad Company, Tennessee Central Railway (not same as above) and the Nashville-Knoxville Railroad. Tennessee Central Railroad was a publicly held company.

This collection consists of two ledgers entitled "Time Roll and Material Book Distribution of Labor and Report of Material." Neither of the ledgers has been written in and both include headings such as Explanation of Overtime, Distribution of Time in Hours, and Daily Record of Materials Taken out of Track.
