Biography / History

Thomas Ross McKenry married Francis "Fanny" McMurray on July 17, 1817. He died on Feb. 19, 1845, and she passed away 10 years later. Thomas worked with Andrew Peery as executors for several estates. They are both buried in Eusebia Cemetery of Blount Co., TN.

Samuel McMurray McKenry, born around 1818, married Catherine Peery (1830-1861) on Sept. 5, 1851. Samuel married Dorcas Vineyard on April 24, 1862. Samuel worked with Andrew Peery as executors for several estates. Samuel died Oct. 14, 1880 at age 62. Samuel and his wives are buried in Eusebia Cemetery of Blount Co., TN.

Blount County is one of the oldest counties in Tennessee. Established in 1795 before statehood, it was named in honor of Territorial Governor William Blount. The county seat of Maryville, named after Governor Blount's wife, Mary Grainger Blount, was established and laid out in the 1795 act creating Blount County.


Collection Scope and Content Note

This collection contains the papers of the McKenry Family of Blount County, Tenn., from the 1830s through the 1940s. Thomas McKenry and Samuel McKenry worked with Andrew Peery as executors of wills. The majority of Thomas McKenry's papers are for the estates of Harrison Boling, of George Moore (also spelled Moor and More), and of Walter Cruse (also spelled Cruze). Samuel McKenry's papers include executor materials as well as receipts, a letter, etc. The financial and miscellaneous papers are for other family members or unknown relations.
