Collection consists of two boxes of material, divided into two series: National Register of Historical Places in Tennessee and State Review Board Meetings.
Biography / History
The Tennessee Historical Commission is a department within the National Register of Historic Places program of the Office of Archeology and Historical Preservation. That office, in turn, is a department within the National Park Service. The National Register of Historic Places is part of a national policy to coordinate and support public and private efforts to identify, evaluate, and protect our nation's cultural and national resources.
Collection Scope and Content Note
The Tennessee Historical Commission Records consist primarily of records of activities of the commission on the county level. These documents are found in Series I: National Register of Historical Places in Tennessee (by County). Only counties A-P are found in this collection. The remainder of the collection contains national register forms and materials regarding State Review Board meetings, editions of the National Register Bulletin, information on the Phi Beta Kappa Society, and study units on various historical topics.
