The book, History and Rhymes of the Lost Battalion by "Buck Private" McCollum, was originally published in 1919 (republished 1921, 1922, 1923, 1929). This 1929 edition is signed by its author, "Buck Private" McCollum, and addressed to Louis A. Duhan. The book contains poems and stories regarding the 308th Infantry's service in Europe during World War I.

The labels on the first cassette tape read "Southeast Asia" and "Middle East." The second tape is labeled "Harriman" and "Conclusion Middle East, Conclusion Harriman."
