Biography / History
Fred Owens was born in Edison, Georgia, 1941. He grew up in Tampa, Florida. He did his basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and from there moved to Fort Hood, Texas. He spent three years in Germany as a soldier. He was in Germany in 1961 when the Berlin Wall went up. Later, he served 13 months in Vietnam with the First Cavalry. Still later, he taught school for 4 ½ years, and then worked with the U.S. Postal Service.
