Biography / History
Robert Love Taylor (1850-1912) of Nashville served as U.S. Representative from Tennessee, 1st District, 1879-81; was appointed pension agent in Knoxville in 1886; was Governor of Tennessee, 1887-91, 1897-99; and served as a U.S. Senator, 1907-12. He died in office 1912. Robert L. Taylor is infamously known for having run for Governor of Tennessee in 1886 against his brother Alf (the Republican nominee) in a race that became known as the "War of the Roses."
