Abstract:
The Charles D. Butte Collection, 1921-2003 (bulk 1940-1948), consists of diaries, memoirs, and histories of the 603rd Quartermaster Graves Registration Company (QM GR CO) that served during and after World War II. This collection extensively covers the activity of the QM GR CO, and the diaries give insight to the experiences shared by its members. The collection also includes several compact discs and a floppy disk that contain electronic copies of the printed information.

Biography / History

Charles D. Butte began his Army career in 1943 and continued until 1960, fulfilling assignments around the globe.


Collection Scope and Content Note

The Charles D. Butte Collection, 1921-2003 (bulk 1940-1948) contains his personal diary of his military service in 1947 and 1948. The collection also contains a history of his wife, Velma, a World War II WAVE and her lifetime military career. The histories of James Robert Bennett and Carmen Charles Gisi are included. In addition to these records, Butte has included the history of the 603 Quartermaster Graves Registration Company and Hall of Fame Recommendations. These documents contain articles, photos, statistics and notes. Finally, the collection contains one floppy disk and several compact discs that hold all of Butte's research and writing.
