Collection consists of two folders.
Biography / History
Lera Ussery was born June 7, 1896 in Columbia, Tennessee. She married Alfred Knox in January, 1918. They had a son, named Jack and a daughter, Margaret Knox, who is the editor. According to Margaret her mother was active in the community and traveled extensivly, funding these trips by writing articles for the now defunct Nashville Banner. Alfred died in 1968 and Lera died in 1975.
Collection Scope and Content Note
The manuscript contains the memories of Lera Knox, as well as travel articles she wrote for the Nashville Banner. The memories give a brief history of Lera's family, covering the Colonial period to the 1960's. Lera's narrative account of Columbia stops in 1933. From this point on the manuscript is a travelogue. Lera was present at and wrote about the coronation of Elizabeth II in 1953.
