In addition to incoming correspondence, this collection also contains government issued pamphlets and flyers as well as correspondence to the Round Robin group.

Biography / History

Helen Faustine Kuhns of Decatur, Illinois graduated Millikin University in 1944 with a degree in home economics. As a WAVE during World War II, she served as a communications officer and naval records librarian in both Boston and Washington, DC from 1944-1946. She received a B.S. in library science in 1947 from the University of Illinois. Kuhns joined the United States Army European Special Services in 1950 and served as a field librarian at Stuttgart Military Post.


Collection Scope and Content Note

The Helen F. Kuhns Papers, 1944-1963 (bulk 1945) consists of incoming correspondence during Kuhns' service as a WAVE in Washington DC. Outgoing correspondence from Kuhns' time in Special Services, government issued pamphlets and flyers, and personal programs and bulletins are also included in this collection.
