Biography / History

Dr. Stanley J. Folmsbee was a Professor of History at the University of Tennessee for forty-two years. A native of New York, Folmsbee earned his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1928 and thus embarked on a long and distinguished career of research and teaching of Tennessee History. Among Professor Folmsbee's many historical achievements include books on the history of the University of Tennessee and many on the history of the state of Tennessee. Also, Dr. Folmsbee is known for his annotated edition of Davy Crockett's autobiography, and Publications of the East Tennessee Historical Society.


Collection Scope and Content Note

This collection contains a 1963 Christmas card and envelope to Dr. Stanley Folmsbee of the UT Department of English from Nell and Leo Holloway of Illinois about the publication of a book, entitled Divided Loyalties. There is also a 1971 article about the reenactment of CSA General James Longstreet's entrance to Knoxville, TN, after the Battle of Chickamauga.M
