Biography / History
George Farragut, the father of Admiral David G. Farragut, was born in Minorca, Spain, on September 29, 1755. Farragut served in the Revolutionary War as well as the Indian campaigns of 1813-1814. He, his wife Elizabeth, and his five children lived in Knoxville from the late 1790s until 1806, at which time they moved to Louisiana where Farragut served as a sailing master in the Navy.
