Biography / History

Cornelius Vernon Calahan married Mary Eugenia Justice in 1889. They had seven children: Lafayette, Clota V., Arthur L., Gertrude, Joe Stanley, Lillian V., and Ralph F. In ca. 1923, Joe Stanley Calahan had Oma, who married a Wilsman. Arthur Calahan was a member of the 30th Division, 113th Regiment Supply Company formed from the North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia National Guard Troops, which fought in the World War I Battle of Ypres, Belgium.


Collection Scope and Content Note

The eight postcards in this collection are to and from members of the Calahan family between the years 1916 and circa 1941. Four are to "Gertie" Calahan, three of those from "Arthur Calahan" during World War I. Another is from Arthur to his mother "Mollie." There is also one to "Joe Callahan" and one to "Ralph Callahan." There is one postcard per year from 1916 thru 1921. One postcard has no date, and another is copyrighted in 1941. All of the postcards from Arthur have their last name spelled as "Calahan."
