Collection Scope and Content Note
The collection contains an autograph book belonging to Mary A. Atkins. Dated entries range from 1861-1872. Some entries are as simple as a signature, or a line or two. Others are whole poems or inspirational words.
The signature of Samuel E. Barbee, originally a captain in the Confederate Army (Fifth Tennessee Infantry), may be of interest. He signed the book in July of 1863, having risen, by then, to the rank of Major.
The album was made with some engravings by various artists.
