Biography / History

No biographical information on Jim Parker could be found.

Minor League Baseball organized first in Tennessee around 1885. The Southern Association began play in 1901. Perhaps as early as 1878, Knoxville had baseball clubs. In 1894, the city's first professional team, the Knoxville Reds, was organized. In 1909 came the Knoxville Appalachians. From 1925 through 1930 the Knoxville Smokies played. The following year the team played in the new Smithson Stadium. In 1953 Smithson Stadium burned and was replaced on the same site by Knoxville Municipal Stadium (later Bill Meyer Stadium). There was no minor league team in Knoxville from 1967 through 1971. However, the Knoxville Smokies reappeared in the 1970s, but the team moved to Sevierville and took the name Tennessee Smokies in 1997.
