Collection consists of ten folders.
Biography / History
The family Thomas B. Paxton, Jr. was researching was the descendents of John and Rhoda (Morris) Wharton, including their son Jesse, a Senator from Tennessee. The family produced a large number of doctors, lawyers, authors, soldiers, and planters since coming over from England in the mid-18th century. Paxton was an attorney in Cincinnati, Ohio in the early 20th century whose great-grandfather was a Wharton.
Collection Scope and Content Note
This collection features information obtained by Thomas B. Paxton, Jr. (between 1902-1930) while researching the Wharton family. The information appears mostly as letters sent by Paxton to family, lawyers, and counties, in response to his inquiries. In addition to the Whartons, the collection has research on connected families (notably the Swanns, Galts, Farrars, and Lesters, all of whom appear in the research), and a few images.
