Abstract: This addition to the Virginia P. Moore Collection (MS-1546) contains letters, writings, articles, photographs, etc. concerning Moore and her work in the Home Demonstration and Cooperative Extension Work of the Department of Agriculture. Some materials pertain to Thomas Edison, Sgt. Alvin York, and Senator and Mrs. Cordell Hull.

Biography / History
Virginia Pearl Moore ( 1880-1950) was one of the first five home demonstration agents in the U.S. She served in this field of work in Tennessee and Florida from 1909-1946. Miss Moore was from Gallatin, Tennessee. She organized garden and canning clubs in six Tennessee counties while she was the state's organizer of School Improvement Work. She was appointed State Collaborator for Tennessee in 1911. Miss Moore served as Assistant Home Demonstrator Agent at Florida State College for Women at Tallahassee from 1923-1946. She also served as assistant director and state home demonstration agent at the University of Tennessee. In June 1937 she was one of only two women invited to speak at the International Housing Congress in Paris. Miss Moore retired from home demonstration work in 1946.
Collection Scope and Content Note
This addition to the Virginia P. Moore Collection (MS-1546) contains letters, writings, articles, photographs, etcetera, concerning Moore. There are nine folders in eight series: 1. Photographs, 1880-circa 1920s (including Moore and Thomas Edison); 2. Cordell & Frances Hull, 1926-1942 (six of seven are letters); 3. Sgt. Alvin C. York, 1919-1942 (subseries 1 pertains to Moore's 1928 article, subseries 2 includes letters, pictures, and articles on the Yorks); 4. Moore's Writings, 1937 (first folder Home Demonstration Work and the Tomato Club, second folder Other Writings); 5. Correspondence, 1913-1950 (many letters concern her extension work in Florida); 6. Scrapbook Leaves, 1913-1950 (articles and letters taken from scrapbook leaves, mostly about her retirement in 1946 and death in 1950); 7. Articles, 1909-1970 (Three from 1909-1937 and two without dates concern Moore, and one from 1970 is about her parents' home.); and 8. Miscellaneous, undated. There is only one item before 1909 ; it is 1880, and one after 1950; it is 1970.
