Biography / History
Nellie Kenyon was born in Lexington, Kentucky. Although she had little formal education in her youth, she spent most of her professional life writing for such Tennessee newspapers as The Chattanooga Times (1925-1940) and The Nashville Tennessean (1940-1970). Her work dealt primarily with federal trials, including coverage of the Scopes Monkey Trial in 1925, her 1950 exposure of a baby selling operation in Memphis, and her coverage of the Jimmy Hoffa trial in 1964. Even after her official retirement in 1970, Kenyon continued to write occasionally on special assignments. She died in 1982.
