Biography / History

This collection represents further materials collected by Special Collections and The Center for War and Society. Materials cover not only World War I and World War II, but also the Korean War, the Vietnam Conflict, and the Persian Gulf War.


Collection Scope and Content Note

These forty boxes include memoirs and narratives, personal correspondence, military records, transcripts of interviews, photographs, maps, newsclippings, newsletters (printed during and after WWII,) and souvenirs of servicemen and women as well as civilians. The collections of materials from Margaret Elizabeth Heap and Margaret Salm emphasize the service of women in World War II and women in the military. There are several collections of photographs from the European and Pacific Theaters. Other items of note are the collection of Pacific Stars and Stripes newspapers from 1945-1948, the collection of military manuals from the 1980s and Lucille Williams' collection of newspaper clippings regarding American military history.
