Biography / History
John S. McNutt was a lawyer and politician in Blount County, Tennessee.
John Conaway Gaut was born on February 27, 1813 in Jefferson County, Tennessee. He attended Maryville College and East Tennessee University and later studied law under Spencer Jarnagin. He eventually became a prominent land lawyer and was elected Circuit Judge in 1853 and again in 1862. When his term expired in 1865, he moved to Nashville and went into practice with Robert L. Caruthers. Gaut died on July 4, 1895.
