Collection Scope and Content Note

These twelve boxes contain memoirs, interviews, news clippings, correspondence, photographs, awards, patches, scrapbooks and other items documenting experiences shared in World War II on the European and Pacific fronts by American Infantrymen, Navymen, Airmen, and Nurses. The seven scrapbooks in the collection have been removed to oversized storage. Of the seven, six contain the headlines from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Evening Daily Bulletin from December 8, 1941 until September 4, 1945. Two other interesting groups of materials are the letters of Robert M. Howes and Jesse Schumaker. John Hunter saved all issues of Yank magazine from July 1944 until December 1945. The folders are alphabetically arranged by the names of the World War II servicemen and -women.
