Biography / History

Lawrence M. DeRidder was born on February 19, 1919 in Norway, Michigan. He earned his B.S. from Northern Michigan University in 1940, his M.A. from the University of Michigan in 1944, and his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 1951. He taught at several secondary schools and universities, including the University of Illinois, before coming to the University of Tennessee as a Professor of Educational Psychology in 1953. He became the Head of the Department of Educational Psychology and Guidance in 1964, and remained in this position until surrendering his administrative duties to teach full-time in 1983. He retired in 1986 and is now a professor emeritus.
