Biography / History

Reverend Samuel Roberts immigrated to Tennessee from Wales in 1855 and founded a colony named Brynyffynon on lands in Scott, Morgan, and Anderson Counties. Accompanying Roberts were his brother, Richard, his nephews, John R. Jones and William Jones, and G. Williams. The Colony's lands, however, were quickly mired in legal claims and court battles and remained so until half a century after Roberts' death in 1885. By the early 1880's, all of the original settlers had either returned to Wales or settled further north.
