Biography / History

Ormand Charles Corry, once considered the foremost expert on population analysis in the state of Tennessee, was born in Rockwall, Texas, in 1900. Corry received his B.S. in economics from North Texas State University in 1927 whereupon he became an instructor of Economics at the University of Texas from 1927-1928 while completing his A.M. in Economics. After further teaching and graduate work at the University of Wisconsin, Corry worked as an economist at the Tennessee Valley Authority from 1935-1944. Corry joined the University of Tennessee faculty in 1949 as a lecturer in personnel relations and became an Associate Research Professor for the Center of Business and Economic Research at the University of Tennessee. It was at this position that Corry distinguished himself in the area of forecasting population trends. Corry retired from the University of Tennessee in 1970 as Research Professor Emeritus. In 1982, Corry was elected as an honorary member of the Association for University Business and Economic Research.
