Biography / History

Virginia Pearl Moore was born on July 7, 1880 in Gallatin, Tennessee. She began working as a home demonstration agent in 1909 and was indeed one of the first five people in the field. In addition to this work, Moore organized garden and canning clubs in six Tennessee counties and served as the State's organizer of School Improvement Work. She was also involved in higher education, serving as Assistant Home Demonstrator Agent at the Florida State College for Women at Tallahassee (1923-1946) and as assistant director and state home demonstration agent at the University of Tennessee. In June of 1937 she was one of only two women invited to speak at the International Housing Congress in Paris, France. Moore retired from home demonstration work in 1946 and died on May 31, 1950 in Gallatin, Tennessee. She is buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Nashville, Tennessee.
