Biography / History

Henry Faulkner (1924-1981) was born in Egypt, Kentucky. His flamboyant lifestyle carried him from a traumatic childhood in rural Kentucky through a bohemian existence in New York, Los Angeles, Key West and Sicily. To the public, he was an eccentric rebel but to his friend Tennessee Williams, a "brilliant" poet.


Collection Scope and Content Note

This collection of manuscripts consists of papers of the artist and poet Henry Faulkner. The collection was contributed and originally assembled by Charles House, author, for the purpose of writing a biography of Faulkner, The Outrageous Life of Henry Faulkner: Portrait of an Appalachian Artist . The University of Tennessee Press, 1988. The organization and classification of the contents reflects this intention.
