Biography / History

Dr. Spivey taught at the University of Florida until 1948. He took over the deanship of the University of Kentucky Graduate School from 1948 to 1959 and then proceeded onward to the University of Tennessee Vice-Presidency from 1960 to 1969. When he retired from the Vice-Presidency in 1968, he returned to his beginnings, teaching English at the University of Florida.


Collection Scope and Content Note

This collection of Dr. Spivey's files does much to show the achievements which gave Dr. Spivey nation-wide reknown in the educational community. This collection holds his speeches to various groups and clubs, newsclippings of his achievements, letters from friends and colleagues and his personal notes concerning authors and works. This collection is topped off with a picture of Dr. Spivey doing what he enjoyed most -- teaching.
