Biography / History

Dr. Michael A. Lofaro (b. 1948) has been teaching at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville since 1975. He received a bachelor's of science degree from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1970, and went on to the University of Maryland for his master's of arts (1972) and Ph.D (1975). Dr. Lofaro has published many works on Daniel Boone, Davy Crockett, and James Agee. From 1979 to 1983 he served as vice president and president of the Tennessee Folklore Society.

Collection Scope and Content Note

This group of material is made up of student projects from Dr. Michael Lofaro's class on folklore written between 1977 and 1984. The papers are arranged by: first, the general subject; second, the student's last name; and third, the specific focus of the study. (Cassette tapes accompany some of the papers.) Certain related subject areas have been merged into a single inclusive heading to simplify the collection's organizational scheme:
