John F. Fuzek was born in Knoxville, Tennessee on December 21, 1921. He was educated at the University of Tennessee, where he earned his B.S. in Chemical Engineering in 1943, his M.S. in Physical Chemistry in 1945, and his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry in 1947. During his professional career, he worked as a chemist for the Hercules Powder Company (1943-1944), as a research chemist for the North American Rayon Corporation (1948-1955), as the head of the research physics department at Beaunit Fibers (1955-1966), as the senior research chemist for Tennessee Eastman Company (1966-1970), and as a research associate for Eastman Kodak Company (1970-1986). After his retirement, he worked as a consultant until his death on June 23, 2005.
