There is also one reprint concerning photorecovery. Sparsely intermixed with Dr. McLaren's reprint collection are related notes and correspondence.

Biography / History

Arthur Douglas McLaren was born on September 27, 1917 in Ipava, Illinois. He earned his B.A. from Park College in 1939 and his Ph.D. from the University of Missouri in 1943. During his professional career, he held a number of different positions, including research chemist at E.I. duPont de Nemours & Co. (1943), assistant professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn (1946), and professor of soil biochemistry at the University of California at Berkeley (1951-1979) in addition to a number of visiting professorships. McLaren also earned a number of fellowships, including Fulbright Fellow in Australia (1959) and Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellow in England (1966). His published works include Photochemistry of Proteins and Nucleic Acids (1964) and Soil Biochemistry (1966). McLaren died on January 21, 1979.
