Boxes 5-8 contain administrative material (board minutes, presidential correspondence, etc.). Boxes 9-11 house various technical pamphlets and publications which include Soupcon , the Knoxville Technical Society Weekly Newsletter.

Biography / History

The Knoxville Technical Society was formed on June 6, 1921, when 48 chartered members adopted a Constitution and By-Laws and elected Charles Edward Ferris, Dean of the College of Engineering as President. Since its inception, The Technical Society of Knoxville has been an association of engineers, architects, physicist, chemists, and other professionals engaged in allied arts and sciences. In addition to being a technical association, the Society is a "civic club." It helps aid the public in the solution of problems of an engineering or scientific nature.

The collection covers the Society's business from 1931 to 1988, with the majority of material covering 1950-1982. Boxes 1-4 deal with different committees, membership events, president's file, and other business relating to scientific problems. Boxes 5-8 contain administrative material (board minutes, presidential correspondence, etc.). Boxes 9-11 house various technical pamphlets and publications which include Soupcon , the Knoxville Technical Society Weekly Newsletter.
