Although the inclusive dates for Dr. Vogel's reprints are 1899-1976, the vast majority were printed after 1950. The reprints are filed numerically (1-3210) with approximate chronological order. Included among Dr. Vogel's materials are author and subject indexes which refer to the topic, date, and guide number of each Radiation Biology reprint in the collection.

Collection consists of eleven boxes.

Howard H. Vogel Jr. was born on November 30, 1914. He completed his undergraduate education at Bowdoin College and continued on to Harvard University, where he earned his Ph.D. degree in 1940. He began his career at the University of Chicago, where he served as the chairman of the undergraduate Biology Department. He later worked at Argonne National Laboratory, where he studied neutrons and performed cancer research. He also worked for the University of Tennessee as a professor of radiation oncology, physiology, and biophysics at the Center for the Health Sciences in Memphis. Vogel died of heart failure in Memphis on March 25, 1998.
