Abstract: Jane Ann Nielsen was active in the League of Women Voters of Tennessee and also the state chairperson of the League of Women Voters committee on Reapportionment and Redistricting. From 1958 through the 1970s, Mrs. Nielsen collected and stored newspaper clippings, court rulings, articles, and League of Women Voters publications concerning reapportionment and redistricting, especially in Tennessee.

Biography / History
Jane Ann Evans was born on April 18, 1914 in Columbus, Ohio. She earned her B.A. in History at Ohio State University and her M.A. at the University of Chicago. After graduation, she taught school in Cooperstown, New York. Evans married Alvin Herborg Nielsen (1910-1994) in 1942, and the couple relocated to Knoxville, Tennessee, where Alvin Nielsen worked in the University of Tennessee's Physics Department. Jane Ann Nielsen took a keen interest in politics and worked with both the local and state branches of the League of Women Voters on the issues of taxation and reapportionment. The Nielsens were also socially active, supporting music and theater at the University of Tennessee as well as the Knoxville Symphony and St. John's Cathedral. Jane Ann Nielsen died on October 18, 2003 in Knoxville, Tennessee.
